SANGAM is the reprise of a quartet that made its
debut in 1999 with a truly authentic and exciting fusion sound that even musical purists found delightful. Now
Kolkata will discover the magic of the same four master performers:
Larry Coryell, guitar legend, has moved effortlessly across
rock, jazz and fusion genres (played a concert here with Shakti in 1982). Musical mentors, collaborators and associates
make up a Who’s Who of greats across the genres, instruments and styles.
George Brooks (tenor sax) has been at the center of some
of the most innovative jazz/Indian fusion of the past decade. Appeared at the Jazz Yatra in 1992 with the Louis
Banks All Stars in an outstanding Indo-Jazz fusion concert. He also leads a Indo-Jazz fusion band "Summit"
with Zakir Hussain, Kai Eckhardt, Steve Smith and Fareed Haque.
Pandit Ronu Mazumdar (flute) studied with his father, Dr. Bhanu
Mazumdar, then with the fine vocalist Pandit Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale, and finally Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao. Performed
with Pandit Ravi Shankar’s ensemble in the Festival of India at Moscow. Tours extensively in all the continents.
Vijay Ghate (tabla) is considered one of the finest
young Tabla players of India, featuring in the international circuit for a decade as a soloist and as accompanist
to some of India’s top dancers, instrumentalists and dancers. A former pupil of the highly respected Pandit Suresh
Talwalkar.
