Karin
Krog made her appearance
on the Scandinavian jazz scene in the early 60's and has since then worked in most countries in Europe , Russia,
China, Indonesia, Australia , Japan and the US. In the 60's she worked with musicians like Jon Christensen, Jan
Garbarek and Arild Andersen. In the US she worked for the first time in 1967 with the Don Ellis orchestra for concerts
and recordings. In 1968 Krog won "Down Beat's" Talent deserving wider recognition in the vocal cathegory,
and has since then many times figured in this poll as well as in several European polls a.o. The European Jazz
Federations poll. Her recordings "Some Other Spring" with Dexter Gordon and "Hi fly" with Ardhie
Shepp won Grammys in Japan, 1970 and 1977, respectively. Winning the "Down Beat" poll brought her together
with with other European pollwinners like John Surman, Jean Luc Ponty, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Daniel
Humair and Albert Mangelsdorf. This group recorded for German label MPS and toured Japan for Expo 1970. Sharing
a mutual interest in electronic music Krog and Surman recorded an album in 1978, "Cloudline Blue", and
has worked with him in duo during the past 20 years. They recorded "Such Winters of Memory" and "The
Nordic Quartet" for ECM. "Freestyle" for the Odin label. They produced "Bluesand" For
Meantime records, a label Krog started in1987. "Bluesand" won the Norwegian Grammy "Spellemannsprisen"
in year 2000, as the jazz CD of the year. Krog finds working with Surman a great challenge because it includes
live electronics as well as acoustical pieces with just saxophone and voice. Krog has also in the recent years
worked with pianist Bengt Hallberg and pianist/organist Nils Lindberg with whom she recently did a church concert
in "Thomaskirche" in Leipzig as part of the jazfestival 2000. She also has worked with Pianist Per Husby
with whom she toured Scotland in1999, and participated on his recordings of music by Tadd Dameron. Krog appeared
at Jazzfest Berlin 2001 with her Norwegian group. She has for some years worked with Vigleik Storaas pno, Bjørn
Alterhaug bass, and Tom Olstad drs., and they have appeared on festivals in Beijing, Jakarta, Calcutta and Bombay
as well as in Norway. In 2002 she relased a recording with gitarist Jacob Young, titled "Where Flamingos Fly",
and recorded a CD with Steve Kuhn trio in New York, called "Where you at".
Vigleik Storaas. born in Bergen studied in Trondheim at the
Conservatory of music, dep. jazz. Composes and records his own music. W ith Krog and Surman he recorded "Nordic
quartet" for ECM. Been musical director for "Bodega Bigband" and composed for the band. Several
tours and festivals ,Amiens, Tallinn, Leverkusen, Jakarta, Bath, Perugia and Beijing. He has also accompanied musicians
like Chet Baker, Warne Marsh, Louis Stewart, Niels- Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Palle Danielson, and other
leading Norwegian musicians.
Born in Molde , Terje Venaas, moved to Oslo 1968 , and started playing in different groups. he soon
became one of the most versatile and popular bassplayers in Norway, and has been much in demand accompanying visiting
musicians to Norway , Dexter Gordon, Jim Hall Joe Henderson, Bob Brookmayer, Chet Baker and others. Lately he has
been working a lot in different countries in Asia as well as Europe, a.o. Bangkok, Shanghai and Calcutta. He has
toured India with Magni Wentzel, and played concerts in Jakarta and Beijing with Karin Krog.
Tom Olstad, drums, was educated at Østlandske
Musicconservatory and the University of Oslo. He has been playing professionally since 1975. He belongs to the
elite of Norwegian drummers, and has worked with tenor players Vidar Johansen and Odd Riisnæs. He has also
been active accompanying guest musicians like Kenny Drew, Art Farmer, Benny Bailey, James Moody and Eddie Harris.
He played with Krog at Festivals in Jakarta, Beijing and Varna.
