The events stands cancelled
due to the Tsunami Disaster
The Tsunami disaster
has devastated so many countries and caused so much human suffering, that an international music festival at this
time would be highly inappropriate.
We at Congo Square have therefore come to a unanimous decision to cancel Jazzfest 2005 in January 2005.
Had it been possible even to hold a festival to raise funds for relief, it would have been worth the effort. However,
as of date, this is not feasible.
We regret the inconvenience this late cancellation has caused the musicians and others. We look forward to creating
an opportunity for Kolkata’s music lovers to hear wonderful music at some later date.
We do also hope you agree that we were left with no choice. A festival of music here would be unthinkable while
the whole country and the world mourn this unprecedented disaster.
We shall return the funds received so far for the 2005 festival from our sponsors. Meanwhile, we hope you will
direct your generosity towards those in need of relief from this unprecedented destruction.
We wish to thank all our sponsors and well-wishers for their support in this and previous concerts. We also wish
to thank all the musicians who were scheduled to perform. |
