Institute and organized by Congo Square, in partnership with AbstractLogix, the music fans in Kolkata, India will
be treated to a musical evening that brings jazz and rock musicians from Europe and the United States alongside
local musical greats.
One of the most talked about drummers in the world today, Jeff Sipe- aka "Apt Q-258" (Project Z, Shawn Lane, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Phil Lesh)
will be performing in India for the first time along with the sensational guitar phenomenon from Austria, Alex Machacek. Machacek's guitar playing has been compared to that of the legendary
Allan Holdsworth. He is also an outstanding composer and one the leading figures in computer technology in music.
Alex has been captivating fans worldwide, performing in recent years with Frank Zappa alumni Terry Bozzio and
Patrick O' Hearn. Lew
Hilt, a local legend
& folk hero will complete the trio on electric bass.
Machacek's wife, Sumitra Nandunjan, a pop jazz vocalist of Indian
origin, born and raised in New York and Austria, also makes her debut performance in India. Sumitra's new album,
"Indian Girl" presents a collection of finely woven pop songs in a jazz setting. The music will remind
you of Ricki Lee Jones and Sade.
Debashish Bhattacharya and Tanmoy Bose, who are musical emissaries of Indian Classical Music and Indo Based Fusion. Debashish
Bhattacharya is an extraordinary slide guitarist and disciple of Brij Bhushan Kabra. His moving performance in
January 2005 with John McLaughlin and Remember Shakti in Science City, Kolkata has been the talk of the town this
past year. Tanmoy Bose is a household name in the world of tabla and has been performing this year with Pandit
Ravi Shankar and Anoushka Shankar.
December 8th promises to be an exciting musical excursion sure to feature adventurous and moving collaborations.
